What Is the Difference Between a Work Order and a Purchase Order?

In Albi, Work Orders and Purchase Orders serve two different but connected purposes:

  • Work Order (WO)
A Work Order is a task-based document. It outlines the scope of work you are assigning to a subcontractor, vendor, or internal team. Think of it as what work needs to be done.

  • Purchase Order (PO)
A Purchase Order is an item-based document. It represents the materials, equipment, or resources required to complete the work. Think of it as a shopping list for the Work Order.

A Purchase Order is always created from an existing Work Order.
