Floor Plans: Troubleshooting & Frequently Asked Questions

Having trouble with Floor Plans in Albi? Find solutions for common issues like poor scan quality, missing walls, sync problems, and more — plus answers to frequently asked questions.

Poor Scan Quality

  • Slow down your walking pace
  • Ensure adequate lighting in the space
  • Keep the device parallel to the walls (avoid tilting up or down)
  • Close all doors before scanning
  • For spaces larger than 2,000 sq ft, break the scan into smaller sections

If the scan still has issues, use the editing tools to insert missing walls, adjust dimensions, and add doorways. You can also re-scan following the best practices above. If the app crashes repeatedly, please contact Albi Support.

Missing Walls

Use the built-in editing tools to add them manually:

  1. Tap the floor plan to open the editor
  2. Select the wall insertion tool
  3. Tap to place the wall start and end points
  4. Drag the endpoints to align with existing walls

Floor Plan Not Appearing After Scan

  • Make sure you tapped Complete Scan at the end of your session
  • Check that your device is connected to the internet (floor plans sync to the cloud)
  • Wait 1–2 minutes — cloud sync can take a moment
  • Check that your device has at least 5GB of available storage (Settings > General > Storage)
  • Force close and reopen the Albi app

If the floor plan is still missing after 5+ minutes with a good internet connection, please contact Albi Support.

App Freezes During Scanning

  • Close any background apps to free up memory
  • Make sure your battery is above 20%
  • Check available storage on your device
  • If the device feels warm, give it a few minutes to cool down — LiDAR scanning is processor-intensive
  • Ensure your device is running the latest iOS update

If the issue persists after restarting your device, please contact Albi Support.

Can't Export a Floor Plan

  • Check that your device has available storage
  • Verify that Albi has permission to access Photos/Files (Settings > Albi)
  • Force close and reopen the app, then try the export again

If exports continue to fail, please contact Albi Support.

Dimensions Look Inaccurate

  • Check that you walked steadily and held the device parallel to the walls
  • Make sure there was adequate lighting and all doors were closed during the scan
  • Use the editing tools to manually adjust wall positions and drag endpoints to correct measurements

±2% variance is normal for LiDAR scanning and is comparable to manual tape measure accuracy. If your measurements are consistently off by more than 5%, please contact Albi Support as this may indicate a device sensor issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

What devices are compatible with Floor Plans? Only iPhone Pro models (12 Pro and newer) and iPad Pro models with LiDAR (2020 and newer). Standard, non-Pro iPhone models do not have LiDAR.

How do I know if my device has LiDAR? Check the back of your device — LiDAR models have a small black dot next to the camera lenses. You can also go to Settings > General > About to check your model number, or try Portrait mode in the Camera app — LiDAR devices show improved depth sensing.

Can I scan multiple rooms in one session? Yes! After finishing a room, tap End Room and walk to the next one. The app will automatically recognize doorway connections and create a properly linked floor plan.

How large of a space can I scan? For best results, keep individual sessions under 2,000 sq ft. Break larger spaces into logical sections — by wing, floor, or zone — to preserve battery life and maintain accuracy.

Will Floor Plans work offline? Yes. Scanning and editing work fully offline. Your floor plans will sync to the cloud once you reconnect to the internet.

Can I edit a floor plan after exporting it? Yes. Floor plans stay fully editable in the Albi app even after exporting. Make your changes and export again to get an updated JPEG.

Will scanning drain my battery? LiDAR scanning uses approximately 15–20% battery per 30-minute session. We recommend starting with at least 20% battery. For longer scanning days, a portable charger is helpful.

What's the accuracy of LiDAR measurements? Floor Plans provides ±2% measurement accuracy when following best practices. This is sufficient for professional restoration estimates and comparable to manual tape measure accuracy.

What's the difference between Floor Plans and 360 Images? Floor Plans uses LiDAR to create accurate 2D sketches with measurements. 360 Images uses a Ricoh Theta camera to capture immersive spherical photos. They complement each other — you can place 360 waypoints directly on your floor plan for added spatial context.

Does Floor Plans work on Android? No. Floor Plans requires Apple's LiDAR technology and AR framework, which is currently only available on iPhone Pro and iPad Pro models.

Do I need to buy any additional hardware? No. Floor Plans uses the LiDAR sensor already built into your iPhone Pro or iPad Pro — no extra equipment required.

How do I share the floor plan with my estimator? Three options: export as JPEG and share via email or text, add the file to your Albi project so your estimator can access it through the web app, or include it in a project report where it will be embedded automatically.
